Grounded plugs are used with devices with a higher risk of short circuits. This is always, for example, with devices with a metal housing or devices that are used in damp rooms, such as the bathroom.
An earthed plug ensures that in case of short circuit (eg broken, loose wiring, overload or water), the metal parts will not become live. The current is fed back into the earth via the earth wire (in the Netherlands: yellow / green wire). The plug can also be connected to a 2-pole cord. A 2-pole cord can also be used for this plug, but the connection of the earth wire is missing, so that the lamp is not earthed. This plug is suitable for use in damp areas, such as the bathroom.
